I have a couple articles for you today on keyword mapping and making your content valuable.

Keyword mapping begins with mapping the keyword phrases you want to target to a page on your web site. Each page has one primary keyword phrase you want to target.

Keyword mapping can be much more sophisticated though. You may want to track sales goals or optins as well. That way you can determine which keywords perform the best.

Wordtracker had a great article today called: SEO for cheats: keyword mapping. In this article Mark Nunney goes step by step through the process he uses for keyword mapping, including how he uses Google Analytics and creates spreadsheets to track his keywords.

Of course the point of the article is to sell you an easier solution for keyword mapping, but the point is he lays out a great method of keyword mapping.  Even if this is above your level of search engine expertise you want to read the article to get an idea of the sophisticated level of tracking you may want to incorporate into your Nichework websites.

The second article was on how to make your web site’s content more valuable.  I even wrote an entire blog post on this over on my other blog: Make your websites search engine friendly.  It describes three strategies to make your niche web site content more valuable. Making your content more valuable is going to help you avoid the penalties Google recently started applying to low quality web sites (content farms.)

Take a look at these articles… they might be a bit sophisticated if this is your first niche web site… but for those of you that have been doing some search engine optimization you may find these right up your alley.

Using WordPress for Traditional Web Sites (Example Inside)

In my book Nichework Marketing I recommend having a blog.

There are many advantages to blogs that traditional web sites don’t have.

BUT sometimes we don’t want a blog…

Or at least we don’t want our web site to LOOK like a blog.

Let’s review some of the reasons why I recommend blogs:

  • Easy to Set Up
  • Simple to Maintain
  • Usually Free
  • Can Run Sophisticated Web Sites
  • Are Easy To Promote
  • Blogs Include RSS Feeds So Your Visitors Can Subscribe To Your Blog
  • Most Blogs Also Include Links For Your Visitors To Share Your Blog Posts On Facebook, Twitter, Etc

I know some of you might have a knee jerk reaction to the word “blog”. You may think of a blog is a personal diary or an entertainment news site…. but you can use WordPress to create traditional web sites.

Take a look at this new site of mine:

The Custom Greeting Card Guy

This site is a traditional web site, right?  It has content about my business and a call to action to get people to opt in and request a trial of my service.

This web site is actually powered by WordPress, the popular blogging software!

BTW this site ranks well in Google for several key word phrases.

Niche Marketing is Important Both Online and Offline

Dear Nicheworker,

You probably know that I’m an advocate of finding a niche.

You probably know that I believe the search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo love the niche web sites.

But, did you know that  having a niche helps your offline marketing as well?

A week or so ago I was speaking to one of our members.  We were discussing offline marketing like business networking groups.

I was a member of BNI (Business Networking International.)

BNI is specifically a networking group for the purpose of giving and receiving referrals. In BNI we each have 30 to 60 seconds each week to stand up and ask for referrals.

One of the things you learn quickly in BNI is that the more specific you can get the more referrals you will receive.

Just like online marketing… the more specific you can be, the better.  (IE: find your niche)

Let’s say for example that you are in a health and wellness company.

You don’t ask for people who want to lose weight.

That seems obvious right. You stand up at your BNI presentation and ask if anyone knows anyone that wants to lose weight.

You think to yourself that everyone knows someone who wants to lose weight. It should be easy for them to give you referrals.

But that is exactly the problem.  You’ve given them too many options.

If you can be more specific you will actually receive more referrals.

Instead of asking for anyone, let’s get more specific.

Ask for pregnant mothers or mothers who just had a baby.  - Why?  They want to lose the baby weight!

Now instead of trying to think of anyone of the 200+ people everyone has in their personal network, they think of the 2 or 3 they know that might be pregnant, recently pregnant, etc.

It is easier for them to come up with 2 or 3 names instead of 200.

Now instead of having a bunch of people who stare at you with blank stares, they all reach for their referral slips and write you a referral.

Being specific, helps you receive more referrals.

This is just like in Nichework Marketing we focus on a niche. Focusing on a niche actually helps us make more money.

Specific is good.

Specific = focused.

Focused = more money.

Why should you target a Niche when marketing online?

Why should you target a niche whem marketing online?

Here are a few facts about why marketing a niche is so effective:

  •  FACT: You’re competing against less people. Therefore you are more likely to dominate.
  • FACT: Your prospects haven’t been exposed to all the internet marketing tricks. This means you’re able to convert more sales.
  • FACT: You can position yourself as an expert.  This allows Google to build trust in you and they will give you better search engine rankings.
  • FACT: You’re also able to build trust with your prospects which means they are more likely to buy from you.
  • FACT: Finally and most importantly, you’re able to attract people who want to purchase from you or join your network marketing team. They seek you out; you don’t have to go chase them!

The opposite is true if you don’t target a niche.

If you don’t target a niche you’re competing against every other distributor in your network marketing company.

How many people are in your company?  How many distributors are you competing against? 100,000? 1,000,000? more?

If you don’t target a niche you’re competing against every other distributor in competing network marketing companies!

Let’s say you are in an Acai juice company.  How many other Acai juice companies are out there?  Let’s say there are only 5 companies out there… and we all know there are a lot more than 5!  You’re not just competing with your company you’re competing with the other distributors in these 5 companies!

Even if your product is best and your pricing is best you still have to get the word out.   You have to compete against not just the 100,000 distributors in your company but the distributors in all the competing companies as well!
